Day at the seaside

Finally I got myself to Bournemouth beach for a swim, with hardly anyone in the sea I headed for the pier and the lifeguards hut, had a quick chat with them just to explain what I was up to and see if anything would get in my way or me in to trouble.

I had a quick look at the board with all the stats, water temperature 9c

My hats on and my ChillSwim bag all pumped up I set of, brrrrrr, chilly, so a quick of the mark to start and get the blood flowing.  After 5 minutes I found the water lovely to swim in and no problems with the water temperature.

I decided to swim 15 minutes one direction, back again and then 15 minutes the other direction as I did not know how strong the tidal would be, as it happens I could feel no sign of a tidal

An hours swim, got dried and headed for the pier to warm up, after 15 minutes I was shivering for a good half an hour.  I did not realise how cold I would be once I got out.

I was interested in this swim as I used my Garmin 920xt and iPhone (which was stored in my ChillSwim bag) recording with MapMyRun, and I was curious to how accurate the Garmin GPS would be, as it only works when your arm if our of the water.

Garmin 2.735km

iPhone  2.896km

that is 6% difference
