A grandad from Swindon is in training to swim the English Channel.
Bryan Avery wants to complete the epic challenge to raise money for the ‘Balls To Cancer’ charity.
He’ll attempt it at some point between the 12th and 17th of September – depending on the tide.
It could take as long as 20 hours to cross.
Bryan says there are some things he’s apprehensive about. He told JACK fm: “Only 20 per cent of swimming the English Channel is actually physical, whereas 80 per cent of it is mental, because you’re in the water, you’re by yourself, things go through your head – your evil demons come out when you’re swimming for that length of time.
“One thing you do experience in the channel is a lot of jellyfish. Nothing serious, but you still need to aware that’s going to happen. If you’re in the water for an extended period of time, you don’t want to keep stopping because it hurts, you’ve just got to keep battling through it and pushing forwards.”
